David W. Reed

David W. Reed, 63, Browns Valley, MN, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at the Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD.
Funeral mass was Friday, November 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating.  Music was provided by organist Norma Jung and vocalists Anne Hartwig, Lisa Cox, Barb Sykora, and Sue Sykora.
Burial will be at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery, Browns Valley.  Military honors were provided by the William Krensing American Legion Post 58 of Browns Valley.  Pallbearers were Greg Sykora, Dan Sykora, Lee Sykora, Doug Sykora, Donnie Sykora, and Dave Raw.
Visitation was Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley, and continued Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.  The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD, is in charge of the arrangements.
David William Reed was born December 24, 1945, in Browns Valley, to Ernest and Annie (Leavitte) Reed.  He attended school in Browns Valley graduating from Browns Valley High School in 1964.
On January 22, 1966, Dave married Karen Sykora at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley.  They had two sons, Terry and Craig. On July 6, 1966, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he received the National Defense Service Medal.  After being discharged July 5, 1968, he returned to Browns Valley.   Dave then farmed and was a commercial fisherman.  For the last two years, he worked part-time as a rural mail carrier.
Dave was a member of the William Krensing American Legion Post 58 of Browns Valley, a life member of the Fort Sisseton VFW Post 3342, and the Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed playing cards, spending time with grandkids, golfing and being outside.  He will be remembered for the love he had for his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Karen of Browns Valley; son, Terry (Darcy) of Watertown, SD; three grandchildren, Jordan, Parker and Jocelyn Reed of Watertown; five sisters, Mary Williams of Mendota Heights, MN, Beverly Raw, Donna (Jack) Lamers, Jeannie Hills, and Kathy Reed all of Browns Valley; in-laws, Gene Sykora of Scio, OR, Francis Sykora of Beardsley, Dale (Katty) Sykora of Beardsley, Jan Sykora of St. Cloud, Chip Sykora of Beardsley, Bob (Barb) Sykora of Excelsior, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; son, Craig; parents-in-law; two sisters, Dorothy Sykora and Helen Raw; and one brother, Sonny Reed.
