David Lester Appel was born on March 16, 1952, in Browns Valley, MN, second born to Lester and Rita (Wolter) Appel. Dave was a loving brother to two sisters, Gloria and Leora, and three brothers, Mike, Don, and Jack.
At a young age Dave was drawn to the outdoors and followed his father into the farming and commercial fishing industries. He was a hard worker and a skilled carpenter. He ended his career working cattle with Dr. Campbell at the Wilmot Valley Veterinary Clinic.
Dave was blessed with his first child, Lisa, in 1970. Dave married Laurie on July 28, 1979. Together they raised five children: Tyler, Brittany, Krystina, Kylee, and Devan. He always enjoyed watching their sporting events, getting the horses and camper ready to go on trail rides, and working on various home improvement projects.
Dave could often be found driving around checking crops, chatting with the local farmers and mechanics, or rocking one of his grandkids for their afternoon nap. He loved to visit with people, whether it be about farming, cars, or the amazing things his grandkids could do. He was the world's best grandpa and will be greatly missed.
David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laurie of Browns Valley; his siblings: Gloria Bartz, Mike (Karen) Appel, Don (Laurie) Appel, Jack (Tess) Appel, and Leora (Jill) Appel; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gail (Don) Varenhorst, David (Shelley) Janecky, and Kim (Penny) Janecky. His children: Lisa (Larry) Toutges, Willmar, MN, Tyler (Brittany) Appel, Sisseton, Brittany (Jeremy) Hoff, Eureka, SD, Krystina (Andy) Raw, Browns Valley, Kylee Appel, Browns Valley, and Devan Appel, Browns Valley. His grandchildren: Shane & Isabel Toutges, Eli & Kai Appel, Jerimany, Harlow, & Harper Hoff, and Deandra & Wesley Raw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Rita Appel; parents-in-law, Woodburn and Bernice Janecky; twin brothers, Christopher and Clarence Appel; and grandchild, Hazel Hoff.
