Darleen L. Sather

Darleen L. Sather, 89, Sisseton, SD, formerly of New Effington, SD, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington officiated by Rev. Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett.

Burial will be at a later date in the Scandia Cemetery, rural Sisseton.  The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt is in charge of the arrangements.

Darleen Lorraine Sather was born December 25, 1927, in Clarkfield, MN, to Conrad and Amanda (Grinager) Cornelius. She was baptized, confirmed and married at the Bergen Lutheran Church in rural Clarkfield, MN. She attended St. Cloud State and then taught in Beardsley, MN. On September 17, 1949, Darleen married Reuben J. Sather of Sisseton, SD, and they were married for 50 years residing on their farm in Roberts County.

Darleen was a member of the American Legion and worshiped at Scandia Lutheran Church and Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington, SD.

Darleen enjoyed sharing her love of music, her commitment to her faith, her boundless hospitality and countless from-scratch recipes. Faith, Family, Food and Farm were all cornerstones of her life and she approached each with great passion. Darleen Loved so many and she was Loved by so many.

The last few years she lived at Edgewood Vista in Sisseton, SD.    Darleen passed away November 4, 2017, at the Sisseton Coteau des Prairies Hospital.

Survivors include her daughters Marilyn (Paul) Mullen of St. Louis Park, MN, and Cindy Sather of Houston, TX; grandchildren Colin (Laura) Mullen and Adella of Duluth, MN, Eric Mullen of Hopkins, MN, and Madelon Benzuly of Houston, TX; the Cornelius brothers Allen, Gaylen (Elaine), and Donald (Delores); and many nieces and nephews.

Darleen was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband Reuben; son Larry; sister Shirley Lynne; brother Clinton; and sisters-in-law Ramona and Eleanor Cornelius.

In Lieu of flowers/plants, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, New Effington, SD, and Parkinson's Foundation Minnesota Chapter.
