Darlaine Piechowski, Sisseton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Ava's House in Sioux Falls in the presence of her loving family. She was 91 years old.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 23, at 3:00 p.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Sisseton.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Sisseton. Pallbearers will be Joshua Stack, Ryan Otto, Jared Kriz, Logan Otto, William Whitlock, Jake Whitlock, Garret Kriz, and Ryan Whitlock.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Sisseton and will continue Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Darlaine Ardella was born March 2, 1929, on a farm near Hammer, SD, to Edwin and Alice (DeBoer) Henke.
On September 28, 1946, Darlaine married William "Bill" Otto. They moved to a farm near Claire City where they farmed together. Darlaine also worked for Roberts County Community Hospital and as a cook for the Claire City School.
Darlaine and Bill had six children, Sharon, Sonny, LaDonna, Dianne, Billy and Michelle. They were married for 25 years prior to Bill's passing.
On June 7, 1975, Darlaine married Joe Piechowski. They lived in Claire City, on Clear Lake at Lake City, and Rosholt.
In March of 2020, they moved to Edgewood Assisted Living in Sisseton. In September, Darlaine was hospitalized at Sanford in Sioux Falls and spent her last days at Ava's House Hospice Care Facility in Sioux Falls.
Darlaine was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Sisseton and will always be remembered for her faith and trust in God.
Darlaine loved baking, gardening, canning, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Darlaine will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Piechowski of Sisseton; children, Sharon (Russ) McKee of Claire City, SD, Sonny (Becky) Otto of Sioux Falls, LaDonna (Randy) Kriz of Claire City, Dianne Stack (Bob Burhans) of Breckenridge, MN, Billy (Julie) Otto of Hartford, SD, and Michelle (Greg) Whitlock of Watertown, SD; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Darlaine was preceded in death by her husband, William Otto; parents, Edwin and Alice Henke; granddaughter, Leslie; brothers, Dale Henke and Donald Henke; and sisters, Marlys Hanson, Lois Scidschlag, and Valdean Frost.
