Danny L. Coffaa

Danny Lee Coffaa, age 82, New Effington, SD, died Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Walla Lutheran Church in rural New Effington. Dinner will be served at noon at the Legion Hall in New Effington.

Burial will be in the Walla Lutheran Cemetery, rural New Effington.  Honorary urn bearers will be Danny's nephews.

Danny was born December 14, 1939, to Walter and Gladys (Carlson) Coffaa in Sisseton, SD. He was raised on the family farm near New Effington and was baptized and confirmed at Walla Lutheran Church.

Danny's education started at Lien #6, a country school located about one mile north of the farm.  After eight years, he moved on to New Effington High School where he graduated in 1959.  After attending South Dakota State University, he returned home to start his farming life.  With the passing of Burnam Lincoln Coffaa, Danny took over ownership of the 1893 Coffaa Family Homestead located north of Hammer, SD. Danny bought the Walter Coffaa farm near New Effington in the year 1990.  A few years later he also purchased the Leroy Ellingson and Roy Dobberstein farms.

Danny loved to build his own equipment.  He would take old machinery and create new larger implements.  Farming was 100% of Danny's life.  He was always thankful that this community kept a watchful eye on him.

Danny is survived by his three sisters, Rose Spear of Bar Harbor, ME, Viola Schultz of Lidgerwood, ND, and Dale Ann Humphrey of New Effington; and brother, Wayne (Ruth) Coffaa of Dell Rapids, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Gladys; and one brother, Donald "Tiny" Coffaa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Walla Lutheran Church Cemetery fund, the Rosholt Ambulance Service, or the New Effington Fire Department.
