Cynthia Evenson

Cynthia L. Evenson, 65, Fargo and Claire City, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at her home in Fargo.

A private family memorial service will be held at Walla Lutheran Church, rural New Effington on Friday, May 27, at 1:00 p.m. It will be livestreamed on the Eggers Funeral Home Facebook page.  A Celebration of Life reception will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Community Center in Claire City. All friends and family are invited.

Cynthia Lynn was born in Sisseton, SD, on July 26, 1956, to Bennel and Ardamae (Wegener) Loberg. She was welcomed home by sister Belinda and brother Nick as well as grandparents Nels and Sadie Loberg and Harry and Hazel Wegener. She was baptized and confirmed at Walla Lutheran Church, New Effington, SD.

Cynthia's entire life was spent in education starting with elementary and high school at New Effington, where she was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen, graduating from NEHS in 1974. She earned a degree in Home Economics in 1978 from South Dakota State University and Master's Degree in Curriculum Development from Moorhead State University in 2020. She taught at schools in Egan, SD, Veblen, SD, Sisseton, SD, Lidgerwood, ND, Forman, ND, and Fargo North High and Fargo South High in Fargo. Ever the educator, Cynthia donated her body to the University of South Dakota Medical School.

In 1978, Cynthia and Ron Evenson were married at Walla Lutheran Church. Matthew was born in 1981, Jessica in 1984, and Benjamin in 1987 while the family was living in Claire City.

Cynthia enjoyed family time, especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. Travel to spend time with Benjamin's family in Alaska and South Carolina were especially enjoyable for her.

Cynthia passed away at her home in Fargo on Friday, May 20, 2022, from cancer. The family appreciates the care provided by Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Ron; son Matthew, his wife Jennifer, and their daughters Lily and Sadie of Arthur, ND; daughter Jessica, her husband Scott Althaus, and their kids Jack and Elizabeth of Fargo; son Benjamin, his wife Jessica, and their kids James and Madelynn of Okinawa, Japan; mother Ardamae Loberg of Sisseton; mother-in-law Opal Evenson of Browns Valley, MN; sister Belinda Engelhart and her husband Paul of Watertown, SD; sister-in-law Linda Loberg and her husband Irv Slaamot of New Effington; sister-in-law Jan Kapitan and her husband Jim of Fargo; brother-in-law Larry Evenson and his wife Marlene of Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law Julie Koeppe and her husband Leon of Clear Lake, SD; cousins, Marcia (Dick) Beezley, Sara (Tom) May, Mary Drake, Dara Wegener-Volker, and Lee Wegener;  and 12 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Bennel Loberg; father-in-law Wally Evenson; brother Nick Loberg; cousins Michael Schlener, Dean Hostbjor, and JoMarie Sprague; and her grandparents.
