Charlotte A. Athey, 65, rural Graceville, MN, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at her residence in rural Graceville.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Beardsley with Rev. John Ragan officiating. Music was provided by organist Tammy Ragan and vocalists Rev. John and Tammy Ragan.
Burial will be at a later date in the Clinton City Cemetery, Clinton, MN. Urn bearers were her grandchildren Justin and KayLee Athey, Abby and Spencer Boner, and Blaine Reynolds.
Visitation was Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Charlotte Amanda was born February 3, 1947, in Graceville to Oren J. and Mary O. (Clark) Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed in Clinton. She attended Clinton High School and Moorhead State University.
On July 19, 1963, Charlotte married Wayne Athey at the Beardsley United Methodist Church. After their marriage, they farmed in Prior Township. They then moved to Lead, SD, where Wayne worked in a gold mine. Charlotte and Wayne returned to Prior Township and continued to farm and milk cows.
Charlotte was a member of the Beardsley United Methodist Church and church circle. For over 34 years, Charlotte and Wayne were foster parents. Charlotte was also a former first responder and 4-H parent and volunteer for many years.
Charlotte's hobbies included reading, bird watching, baking, gardening and visiting. She was always on the go. Charlotte loved her dogs, the farm, and living on the farm where she grew up. She especially enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids show animals at the county fair.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne of Graceville; children, Wade (Vicki) Athey of Graceville and MaryJo (Harry) Boner of Castlewood, SD; five grandchildren, Justin and KayLee Athey, Abby and Spencer Boner, and Blaine Reynolds.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Mary Hanson; and mother and father-in-law, Eleanor and Chalmer Athey.
