Charles "Chuck" J. Thorson, 74, Clinton, MN, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were Monday, January 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton with Minister Bev McNeill officiating. Music was provided by organist Bonnie Stotesbery and vocalist Randy Stotesbery.
Burial was in the Clinton City Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the Campbell Williams American Legion Post 258 of Clinton. Honorary urn bearers were active and retired members of the Clinton Fire Department and members of the American Legion. Active urn bearers were Charles' grandchildren.
Visitation was Sunday, January 11, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the church in Clinton. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD, was in charge of the arrangements.
Charles Jay Thorson was born on February 7, 1940, to George and Clara (Rasmusson) Thorson in Graceville, MN. Chuck was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. He attended and graduated from Clinton High School in May 1958. On November 21, 1958, he joined the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base, IL. He was honorably discharged October 5, 1962.
On June 8, 1963, Chuck was united in marriage to Carol Switters. To this union, four children were born: DawnMarie, HeidiRae, Jay and DaraLie.
Chuck had the opportunity to explore many job opportunities during his lifetime. Some of those jobs included: manager of Super America in Minneapolis and Olivia, MN, helping his father-in-law with his dry cleaning business, truck driver, bartender and owning his own lawn care/snow blowing business.
Chuck enjoyed fishing and hunting and was known to call Carol and let her know that he was going to "the office" (the lake). Most of all Chuck enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, always taking the time to ask them how they were doing and letting them know how proud he was of them. He also enjoyed spending his time with his faithful companion D.O.G.
Chuck was a member of the Clinton American Legion Post #258 and was a retired member of the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department.
Chuck was admitted to the Essentia Graceville Hospital on December 30, 2014, and was transferred to Essentia Health in Fargo, ND, on December 31, 2014. Chuck passed away on January 4, 2015, having reached the age of 74.
Cherishing his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Carol Thorson of Clinton; his three children: HeidiRae (John) Strobel of St. Augusta, MN; Jay (Lisa) Thorson of Clinton; DaraLie (Billy) Gibson of Clinton; his brother, George (Krista) Thorson of Kalispell, MT; grandchildren, Taylor and Alexis Strobel, Jordan, Alex and Hannah Thorson, Carter, Hunter, Ashlin, Jordon (fiancee Michelle and Kevin), Chelsie, Savannah, Macey and Madeline Gibson; great-grandson Bailly Smith; nieces, nephews and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, DawnMarie; his parents; his brother, Stephen; and sister-in-law, Ellie.
