Carmen "Boso" Steen

Carmen "Boso" G. Steen, age 80 of Sisseton, SD, passed away on May 12, 2020 at the Countryside Inn Assisted Living & Memory Care Center in Rosholt, SD.

A public walk-through visitation will be held Friday, May 15, 2020 at Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

A private family service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with burial following at Concordia Cemetery.

Carmen Gale was born October 4, 1939 in Sisseton, SD, to Odell and Doris (McKee) Steen. He went to country school through eighth grade. On May 2009, he received his honorary high school diploma. Boso started his military career in 1961, but it was cut short due to his father's passing. He then came home to take over the family farm with his brother, Kervin "Toby" Steen. In the off season, he worked at the Wahpeton Sugar Beet Plant and for numerous commercial seining crews out of Browns Valley, MN.

On August 17, 1962, he was united in marriage to Shirley Cardwell in Wheaton, MN. They started their marriage on the family farm and celebrated 57 years of marriage. Three children were born to this union: Natalie, Brian, and Paula. Family pets were always important to Boso and his family. Boso enjoyed teasing and spending time with all his grandchildren.

In 1995 Boso began tinkering on antique John Deere tractors, but later became obsessed with collecting and restoring Allis Chalmers tractors. This included traveling and touring with his Allis Chalmers family. His collection included 70 tractors. He also participated in numerous tractor caravans and parades.

Boso loved his Norwegian heritage and was fortunate to travel to Norway twice to meet relatives. Boso and Shirley also hosted relatives from Norway a few times.

Boso is survived by his wife Shirley. Children: Natalie (Lynn) Stadtler of Sisseton, Brian (Gina) Steen of Sisseton, and Paula (Lonnie) Fonder of Huron, SD. Grandchildren: Lacey (Tony) Miller, Lundee (Kelsey) Stadtler, Kyle (Pam) Steen, Brittany (Nick) Currence, Abby (Logan Plath) Steen, Kelli (Jesse Biel) Fonder, and Miah (Matthew Ellis) Fonder. Great Grandchildren: Dasani and Daxtin Miller, Talin and Raidin Stadtler, Andrew and Owen Currence, Brynn (Fonder) Gregerson. Siblings: Kervin "Toby" (Karen) Steen of Sisseton, and Harlen "Butch" (Deena) Steen of Raymond, MN, half-sister Dorothy "Tootsie" (Fritz) Fiala of Browns Valley, MN, half-brother Darrell (Glenda) Olson of Denver, CO.

He was preceded in death by parents, Odell Steen, Doris Lizotte and stepfather Oscar Lizotte, and half-sister Darla Becker.
