Born on a blustery Halloween in 1979 in Sisseton, she was the youngest child of Tom and Pat (Schmitz) Greseth. Carmen was known for her strong will, community-mindedness, and devotion as a mother. Carmen was a 1998 graduate of Veblen High School and furthered her education at NDSCS, where she earned degrees in Computer Information Systems and Computer Programming. While at NDSCS, she was also a member of the Wildcat Women’s Track and Field Program and was proud of being part of that team.
Carmen began her work life while in high school at the Depot Drive Inn and worked various jobs throughout her life until her health issues limited her abilities. Carmen was currently employed part time with the Sisseton Public Schools as a bus dispatcher. Her strong work ethic was a testament to her upbringing and wanting to provide for her daughter.
Carmen was a devoted mother to her only daughter, Chesney Greseth of Spearfish, SD. Chesney was her greatest accomplishment and Carmen enjoyed sharing her parental pride with anyone who would take the time to listen and inquire about Chesney. She attended all her activities and was often heard cheering her on from the sidelines. Her greatest legacy is her daughter. Carmen also had a love of animals and had numerous pets over the years including her beloved dog Penny at the time of her passing.
Carmen's faith was an important aspect of her life. She was baptized and confirmed at Veblen Presbyterian Church and attended Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton, SD. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, crafting, sewing, and enthusiastically supporting her daughter in various activities.
Carmen is survived by her greatest accomplishment, daughter Chesney Greseth of Spearfish, SD; her sisters, Carole (Gary Mack) Greseth of Aberdeen, SD, and Carin (Eric) Kassa of Wahpeton, ND; her brother, Jon (Linda) Greseth of Brookings, SD; and her foreign exchange siblings, Hulya Ozkan of Germany, Ge Song of China, and Thiaggo Paggiano of Brazil. She is also survived by her aunt, Lannette Adams of Estelline, SD; and uncles, Scott (Allison) Schmitz of Aberdeen and Peter Greseth of Wahpeton; nieces, Carleyn (Cole) Petersen, Lily Greseth, Davyn Kassa, Grace Greseth, and Lottie Greseth; and nephews, Dale Greseth and Lachlan Kassa; along with many cousins, extended family and friends.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Pat Greseth; brother, Leo Greseth; paternal grandparents, Jewell and Grace (Berreth) Greseth; maternal grandparents, Rudolph and Alice (Schneider) Schmitz; and aunt and uncles, Ruth and Frederick Ceroll, Gary Greseth, and Jack Adams.
