Burton Charles Plant was born June 5, 1917, in Miles City, MT, the son of Charles and Pearl (Smith) Plant. He moved to Roberts County at the age of three years. He attended school at the North Bryant school through the eighth grade. He then farmed with his father on the family homestead. As a teenager, Burton joined the CC Camp and worked in the Black Hills. He returned to farm with his dad.
On September 30, 1943, Burton married Marguerite Randall at the St. Anthony's parsonage in Browns Valley. Two children were born to them, Keith and Kathleen. Burton continued to farm, taking over from his dad in 1943. Burton was also a commercial fisherman for twenty years, fishing lakes in South Dakota and North Dakota. In November of 1974, Burton joined the Minn-Dak Beet Plant where he was the lime kiln operator for thirteen years. Burton retired in 1987 at the age of 70.
After retirement, Burton enjoyed being at the lake home, gardening, fishing tournaments with his grandsons, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. He was a proud member of the Walleye Masters. Burton especially enjoyed fishing with friends Bill Kaufman and Dean Mann and ice fishing with his buddy Jack Wilson.
