Boyce Kempton

Boyce R. Kempton, age 95, Rosholt, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025, at his home in rural Rosholt.

Funeral Services will be Monday, March 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt.

Burial will be in the Trondhjem Cemetery, rural Rosholt.  Military honors will be provided by the Leo American Legion Post 48 of Rosholt and the Read Veflin American Legion Post 180 of New Effington.

Visitation will be Monday, March 3, one hour prior to the service at the church.

Boyce Regmore Kempton was born on October 22, 1929, to Wesley and Evelyn (Ellingson) Kempton at Lemmon, SD.  He started his education at a rural grade school near Keldron, in Corson County, SD.  In 1936, Boyce and his parents moved to West Harmon Township, Roberts County, SD.  He finished grade school at Winans rural grade school.  He continued on to Rosholt High School, graduating in 1947.

On October 24, 1951, Boyce was drafted into the Marine Corps.  He was honorably discharged October 23, 1953, earning the National Defense Service Medal.  After his service he attended North Dakota State School of Science for electrician school.  After finishing school, he farmed with his dad and beyond his dad's retirement.  Boyce retired from farming around the year 2000.

In his younger years, Boyce enjoyed fishing and hunting.  In his later years, he loved visiting friends and relatives.  He also shared his garden produce and was called the "Melon Man" or the "Carrot Guy," for whatever surplus produce he shared.

Boyce is survived by his brother Kim and sister-in-law Marcia Kempton of Rosholt; nephews and nieces, David, Chuck, Gary, Christopher, Sara, Heidi, and Ashley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Evelyn; and his half-brother Royce Kempton.
