Bonnie Jackson

Bonnie Elaine (McConnell) Jackson, 84, of Rosholt, SD, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013, at St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton, ND.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt with Rev. Nancy Quatier officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand and vocalist Paul Jore.    Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Erika (Bartz) Arndt, Kari (Hanson) Gerbig, Siri Jore, and Keana, Kenzie and Kailey Jackson. Active pallbearers were her grandsons, Nathan, Steve, Scott, and Matthew Klicker, Brandon Bartz, Aaron Hanson, Kyle and Adam Jore and Koby Jackson.
Visitation was Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt and continued Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Bonnie was born July 17, 1928 in Omaha, NE, to Howard and Martha McConnell. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Maria Lutheran Church in Hershey, NE, where she grew up.
Bonnie attended a rural school in Hershey, NE. She graduated at age 16 and furthered her education at Luther College in Wahoo, NE. Bonnie met Glenys Jackson, a Luther College student and lay pastor at Maria Lutheran Church in Hershey one summer when her mom invited the 'nice young man' home for Sunday dinner.
Bonnie married Glenys Jackson of Rosholt, SD, on July 24, 1947. The couple lived in an air stream camper in St. Peter, MN, while Glenys attended Gustavus Adolphus College before returning to the Jackson family farm near Rosholt. There Bonnie was a dedicated and busy farmwife, often serving the noon meal in two shifts. She was quick to make friends in her new community and became actively involved in her church, first as a member of St. Joseph Lutheran and then Bethania Lutheran in Rosholt. She believed in serving her community and was an active member of numerous Roberts County organizations, such as Farm Bureau, the Republican Party, Homemakers, 4-H, and Lutheran Digest Inc.
After her husband passed away, Bonnie moved to a home on Lake Traverse. Never short on hospitality, there was always a cup of coffee and a baked treat for all who stopped to chat! Bonnie later moved to Rosholt to be close to her grandkids and their activities. Her pride and unwavering support of their activities was evident in her attendance at games and an "unofficial" reserved seat. The Sunday crossword puzzle was among Bonnie's personal mind challenges and a daily goal to have it finished by mid-afternoon. She welcomed grandkids, who often walked in with two questions: "Grandma, where are your cinnamon rolls?" and "Grandma, what game do you want to play?" She was known for her ability to bake and host an engaging game of Rook or Quiddler.
Bonnie is survived by four daughters, Diane (Roy) Bartz of Homer, Alaska; Leslie (Tony) Hanson of LaMoure, ND; Karen (Ken) Klicker of Menahga, MN; Sandra (Paul) Jore of McIntosh, MN; and one son, Kevin Jackson of Rosholt, SD; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ramona McConnell of Hershey, NE; Ruth Jackson of St. Paul, MN; Renee Jackson of St. Peter, MN; Delores and Cal Bertram of Rosholt, SD; Carmon and Audrey Jackson of Fergus Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Glenys, and her brother, Robert McConnell.
