Beverly "Bev" M. Yost, 85, Sisseton, SD, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014, at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton.
Memorial services were Wednesday, August 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington with Rev. Tryphine Olson Schruba officiating. Music was provided by organist Debra Bredvik.
Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery, Browns Valley, MN. Honorary urn bearers were Bev's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Beverly Mae was born the only child of John and Hazel (Deyo) Oliver on July 25, 1929, in Folsom Township, MN. She attended all twelve years of school at the Browns Valley Public School. She also attended one year at Moorhead State College in Moorhead, MN.
Bev was united in marriage to Alvin Yost on June 10, 1949, at the Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley. Upon marriage they moved to the farm where "Grandma Bev," as most people called her, continued to live until late 2013 when she moved into the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton.
Bev taught school one year in Beardsley and two years at the nearby Hart #3 School, which Bev was instrumental in getting placed on the National Register of Historic Places. She was also employed as a teacher's aide at the New Effington School for a few years in the '70s. Alvin passed away in 1971. For many years, Bev collected the local news for several area newspapers. This was a very satisfying job for her as it gave her the opportunity to phone friends and neighbors each week to gather the information.
Bev was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed watching the Vikings. She enjoyed collecting the Twins' bats and had quite a collection of dolls.
A special thanks to Dinah Konda for being a special friend to Bev for many years, especially the last few years she was able to stay in her home.
Survivors include three children, Colletta Heald of Atlanta, GA, Delwin (Sue) Yost of Mobridge, SD, and Edward (Melanie) Yost of Sisseton; grandchildren, Michelle Jones, Jennifer (Richie) Mobley, Stacy (Joshua) Couture, Carissa (Rod) Axsom, Kristin Yost, and Lindsay Bartnick; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Jacob Jones, Erin and Tyler Mobley, J.C. Couture, Andrew Sheldon, Riley Axsom, and Olivia and Jay Bartnick.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin Yost; and son-in-law, Wayne Heald.
