Bernetta M. Sutton, 77, Sisseton, SD, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton.
Funeral mass was Saturday, April 6, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton with Father Joseph Hitpas, OMI, officiating. Music was provided by pianist Austin Eggers.
Burial was in the St. Peter's Cemetery, Sisseton. Pallbearers were Michael Sutton, Tyler Sutton, Jason Eggers, Kelly Eggers, Chad Falken and Larry Neuberger.
Visitation was Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt and continued Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Bernetta Mathilda was born June 25, 1935, in Eden, SD, to George and Annie (Neuberger) Deutsch. She attended rural school in the Eden area.
On April 30, 1953, Bernetta married John Sutton in Sisseton. After their marriage, they lived in Clear Lake, SD, and other various places working road construction. In 1971, Bernetta and Johnny moved to Sisseton and started their own business, S & S Trenching. Bernetta worked as a cook at Melvin's Café and at the Sisseton Livestock Auction. She later was the manager and bookkeeper at the family business. John passed away June 26, 1998. Bernetta continued to manage the family business with their son, Terry, until moving to the Countryside Inn in Rosholt in 2009.
Bernetta's hobbies included camping, doing crossword puzzles and paint by numbers, playing cards and watching TV. She also enjoyed being a member of the Ding-A-Lings, the Countryside Inn bell ringers. Bernetta especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Terry (Debbie) Sutton of Sisseton; three grandchildren, Nikki (Jess) Elliott of Savage, MN, Amber (Joel) Kemnitz of Sisseton, and Michael Sutton of Sisseton; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Sutton, and Olivia and Axel Elliott; and a brother, Arnie Deutsch of Sisseton.
Bernetta was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents; a brother, Norman Deutsch; and a sister, Alvera Bucklin.
