Audrey L. Sando

Audrey L. Sando, 88, Rosholt, SD, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017, surrounded by family at the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton, SD.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, April 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Rosholt with Father Stanley Wieser officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt and resume at the church prior to the 7:00 pm prayer service. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be at Bethania Cemetery, Rosholt.

Audrey Lillian was born May 13, 1928, to George and Celestine (Haessly) Pohl in Wheaton, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Rosholt. Audrey attended and graduated from Rosholt High School in 1946. She furthered her education at Moorhead State Teachers College graduating in 1948 and taught in Lamberton, MN.

On September 3, 1949, Audrey married Donald James Sando at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Rosholt. Together they farmed south of Rosholt creating many wonderful memories. She enjoyed her role as wife, mother and homemaker and was also a teacher's aide and substitute teacher in Rosholt for many years.

Audrey was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Her faith and family were most important in her life. Audrey's gift of knitting and quilting provided many beautiful keepsakes for her family. She was a member of Bethania Quilters and also enjoyed music, dancing with Don, and tending to her flowers.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of Rosholt; six children, Steven Sando of Coon Rapids, MN, Cheryl (Jamey) Jurgens of Milbank, SD, Karen (Ken) Braun of Fargo, ND, Richard (Leann) Sando of Rosholt, Myra (Tom) Nowak of Casselton, ND, and Donna (Brian) Christl of West Fargo, ND; 13 grandchildren, Donald Jurgens, Valerie Jurgens, Sophia Murphy, Brian Renelt, Mark Renelt, Renee Colclough, Lezlie Simonson, Isaac Sando, Alexander Sando, Scott Nowak, Michael Nowak, Nathan Nowak and Emma Christl; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marion (Gene) Fourniea of Bloomington, MN, Joyce (Horace) Myers of Lakewood, CO; brother, George (Janny) Pohl of Rosholt and brother-in-law Carl Hansen of Hankinson, ND.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, George Sr. and Celestine Pohl; her father and mother-in-law, Oliver and Emma Sando; and twin sister, Dorothy Hansen.
