Audrey Mae Lewis, 79, Rosholt, SD, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at the Browns Valley Health Center, Browns Valley, MN.
Funeral services were Monday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt with Rev. Nancy Quatier officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand and grandchildren Eric, Katelyn, and Alyssa Lewis.
Burial was in the Bethania Cemetery, Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Sarah Bartelt, Sally Schmidt, Gina Marie Njugunah, Rebecca Lewis, Katelyn Lewis, Alyssa Lewis and great-grandchildren, Brayden Bartelt, Lucy Bartelt, Benjamin Lewis, Abigail Lewis. Active pallbearers were grandsons, Scott Bartelt, Mark Bartelt, Daniel Borgheiinck, Matthew Bartelt, Adam Lewis, Sean Lewis, Eric Lewis, Samuel Lewis.
Visitation was Sunday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Visitation continued Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Audrey Mae was born August 29, 1935, to Clarence and Lila (Swayze) German in Sisseton, SD. She was baptized and confirmed in the Peever Lutheran Church. Audrey attended school in Peever and Sisseton, graduating from Sisseton High School in 1953.
On September 17, 1953, Audrey married Raymond Lewis in Webster, SD. Audrey was a stay at home mom until all of her kids were in school. She then worked as a housekeeper at the Rosholt Nursing Home and as a bookkeeper at Rosholt Equipment. She also sold products for Tupperware, Stanley, and Christmas Around the World. Audrey later managed Nelson Hardware Store in Rosholt. She then returned as a cook for the Rosholt Nursing Home until retiring in 2002 due to health reasons. In 2005, Audrey entered the Rosholt Care Center. Ray passed away May 17, 2008. In 2010, Audrey made her home in the Browns Valley Health Center.
Audrey was very active in church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent and served on the church board. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. For many years, Audrey served as the chairperson of Rosholt Appreciation Day.
Audrey's hobbies included bowling, playing Bingo, cards and dirty marbles, walking, and riding bike. She also enjoyed dressing up for Halloween, dancing and listening to music. Above all, Audrey loved family gatherings and reunions.
Survivors include four children, Darold (Suzanne) Lewis of Afton, MN, Darla (Douglas) Bartelt of Waubay, SD, David (Marcy) Lewis of Rosholt, Diane (Darold) Borgheiinck of Rosholt; grandchildren, Sarah, Scott, Sally (Christopher), Mark (Tami), Daniel, Matthew, Adam (Rebecca), Sean, Gina Marie (Tommex), Eric (Emily), Rebecca, Samuel, Katelyn, Alyssa; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Lucy, Benjamin, Abigail; sister, Veronica (Henry Jr.) Stai of Portland, OR; sister-in-law, Margaret Paulson of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lila German; husband, Raymond Lewis; and sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Clarence Lewis.
