Arvin F. Kemnitz, 70, Claire City, SD, died Friday, October 22, 2010, at the Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD.
Funeral services were Monday, October 25, at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City with Rev. Douglas Wanderer officiating. Music was provided by organist Edwin Arndt, Jr., and vocalists Paul and Diane Bartnick.
Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Claire City. Pallbearers were Brandon Ostby, Jason Thomas, Joel Kemnitz, Brent Ceroll, Jared Bartnick, and Bryce Ceroll.
Visitation was Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD. Visitation continued Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arvin Frederick Kemnitz was born May 21, 1940, in Minnesota Township, SD, to Albert and Jane (Flaws) Kemnitz. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City. He attended several country schools and graduated from New Effington High School in 1958.
On July 15, 1966, Arvin married Linda Bostrom at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington, SD. He spent most of his life farming and raising animals, retiring in 2001. Arvin then worked at the Dakota Magic Casino until 2009.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as church elder, church steward and as the cemetery sextant.
Survivors include his wife Linda of Claire City; three children, LeAnn (Jeff) Stauffenecker of Willmar, MN, Aaron (Crystal) Kemnitz of Claire City, and Adrian (Buffy) Kemnitz of Rosholt; seven grandchildren, Jenna and Abby Stauffenecker, Madison Kemnitz, Jada and Logan Plath, Brandon (Stacey) Ostby, and Ashley (Jason) Thomas, four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Xavier and Tia Thomas, and Deegan Ostby; and a brother, Milton (Doris) Kemnitz of Sisseton.
Arvin was preceded in death by twin daughters, Lana and Lisa; a granddaughter, Anna Stauffenecker; and his parents, Albert and Jane Kemnitz.
