Arvin D. Bartz, 81, Rosholt, SD, formerly of Browns Valley, MN, died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the Rosholt Care Center.
Funeral services were Thursday, November 14, at 10:30 a.m. at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Sisseton, SD, with Rev. Jeff Kalb officiating. Music was provided by organist Clarice Arbach and vocalist Dean Lehrke.
Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery, Browns Valley. Urn bearers were Arvin's grandchildren. Visitation was Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt.
Arvin Darrold Bartz was born December 18, 1931, in Bryant Township, Roberts County, SD, to Harold and Elvera (Yost) Bartz. He was baptized and confirmed at the Windom Trinity Lutheran Church, Harmon Township. Arvin attended grade school at South Bryant Country School and high school at Sisseton.
On August 18, 1950, Arvin married Ruth Janet Kuschel at the Windom Trinity Lutheran Church. They farmed and lived in Bryant Township until 1974, when they moved to their home on Lake Traverse. On February 16, 2012, they moved to Rosholt.
Arvin served on the Bryant Township Board, the Browns Valley School Board, and the Browns Valley Creamery Board. He was also a member of the Zion Lutheran Church Council and was an elder at the Windom Trinity Lutheran Church.
Arvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and having coffee with friends. He especially loved farming.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Rosholt; four children, Eugene (Gloria) Bartz of Sisseton, Roy (Diane) Bartz of Homer, AK, Janis (Ted) Thode of Sisseton,and Andrea (Killian) Horner of Montgomery, AL; two guardian children, Elaine (Ed) Swyers of New Hampton, IA, and Joann Roiland of Eagan, MN; nine grandchildren, Jonathan (Tina) Bartz, Jennifer (Paul) Tinerella, Brandon (Ana) Bartz, Erika Arndt, Stephanie (Glenn Fladeboe) McCleerey, Aaron (Heather) McCleerey, Mirissa (AJ Smith) McCleerey, Matthew (Amanda) Horner, and Brittany (Brandon) Richardson; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores (LaVern) Lehrke of Sisseton; and three brothers, Harlyn (Carol) Bartz of Browns Valley, Dale (Diane) Bartz of Marshall, MN, and Vernon (Pat) Bartz of St. Cloud, MN.
Arvin was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Elvera; an infant brother, Carmon Bartz; and a sister, Audrey Gunderson.
