Ardys M. Summitt

Ardys M. Summitt, age 89, Sisseton, SD, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church Chapel in Sisseton with Rev. Patrick Jenkins officiating. Music will be provided by organist Ollie Yost.

Burial will be in the Goodwill Cemetery, Sisseton. Pallbearers will be Devon Richards, Austin Mangalaw, Brandon Mangalaw, Francis Mangalaw, and Jeremiah Summitt.

Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ardys Marie Summitt was born October 30, 1928, in Sisseton to Gustaf and Janet (Floe) Thurston.  She attended school in Sisseton and later moved to California where she graduated high school.

After graduating, Ardys went to work as a secretary for the Fisherman Wharf in California.  Throughout the years, she worked for the FHA as a bookkeeper in Roseau, MN, and lived in various cities thoughout her life until she moved back to Sisseton where she was employed as a cook at the Tekakwitha Living Center.  At the age of 62, Ardys retired from cooking at the Sisseton Senior Center.

Ardys was blessed to have six children, Peter Jo, Juanita, David, Betty, Terri, and Billy.

Ardys enjoyed cross stitching, painting and gardening.  She loved spending time with her granddaughter Sharona planting geraniums and marigolds.  On occasion, Ardys would watch Jeremiah, Devon and Tanya who remember her as the grandma that bought the good cereal, King Vitamin and Kaboom.

Ardys is preceded in death by her parents, Gustaf and Janet Thurston; her children, Peter Jo, Juanita, David, and Billy Summit; and her son-in-law, Dennis Richards.

Ardys is survived by her daughters, Betty Richards of Wahpeton, ND, and Terri Summitt of Aberdeen, SD; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
