Ardys L. Haanen, 91, Beardsley, MN, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at the Browns Valley Health Center.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Browns Valley with Rev. Paul Warnier officiating. Music will be provided by organist Ginny Westbrock.
Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Beardsley. Pallbearers will be Brian Lehrke, Michael Haanen, Harry Haanen, Jim Klein, Terry Miller and Gary Wuestenhagen.
Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD, is in charge of the arrangements.
Ardys Louise was born December 24, 1925, to parents Art and Agnes (Heinecke) Rau on the family farm near Sisseton, SD. She was baptized at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Sisseton and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Parnell Township, Traverse County, MN. Ardys attended rural school in Parnell Township and graduated from Beardsley High School in 1943. After finishing school, Ardys worked at a toy factory which turned into a munitions factory making grenade pins during the war.
On June 27, 1945, Ardys married Adrian Haanen at the St. Mary's rectory in Beardsley. They lived and farmed in the Beardsley area. In 1978, they moved into Beardsley. Adrian died in January 1996. Ardys made her home in the Browns Valley Health Center in 2013.
Ardys was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aide. She enjoyed going to the casino, walking, baking, dancing and playing bingo.
Survivors include her son, Carl (Pat) Haanen of Graceville, MN; daughter, Nancy (Alan) Lehrke of Prior Lake, MN; three grandchildren, Brian (Gwen) Lehrke, Michael Haanen, and Rebecca Haanen; four sisters, Dorothy Wuestenhagen of Port Washington, WI, Lois Drewelow of Alexandria, MN, Helen Kalthoff of Eagan, MN, and Bernice (Matt) Anthony of Minneapolis; and a brother, Richard (Joy) Rau of Becker, MN.
Ardys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adrian; a brother, Eddie; and two sisters, Mabel and Ellen.
