Amanda A. Sykora, 98, Browns Valley, MN, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at the Browns Valley Health Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 27, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley officiated by Father Gregg Frankman. Music will be provided by organist Carmen Hills and vocalists Sue Sykora and Kelsey Holtz.
The service will be livestreamed on the Eggers Funeral Home Facebook page.
Burial will be at a later date in the St. Anthony Cemetery, Browns Valley.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church and will continue Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.
Amanda Altilda Sykora was born April 17, 1922, in Grenville, SD, to Mike Sr. and Rosie (Miotke) Lewandowski. She was baptized at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grenville and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton. She attended school through the eighth grade in Sisseton.
On February 23, 1943, Amanda married Lawrence Sykora at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton. They lived and farmed in Becker Township, Roberts County, SD. Amanda also worked at the Landsberger Creamery in Sisseton and did housekeeping for several families. Lawrence passed away in May of 1979.
Amanda was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the St. Anthony's Guild, the Christian Mothers, and the Daughters of Isabella. She loved helping people and praying the Rosary for anyone that needed one. Amanda also enjoyed babysitting, embroidering, and gardening.
Survivors include six children, Lawrence (Jan) Sykora, Jr., of Montrose, MN, Tom (special friend Lynnette) Sykora of Sauk Rapids, MN, Helen (Gene) Hamling of Hankinson, ND, Don (Kim) Sykora of Ortonville, MN, Gordon (special friend Sandy) Sykora of Fargo, ND, and Rita (Steve) Kortenbusch of Melrose, MN; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Kleindl; sister-in-law, Joy Lewandowski, and brother-in-law, Ed Lamers all of Browns Valley, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Amanda was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her parents; daughter-in-law, Nancy; three brothers, Jim, Mike and Leonard Lewandowski; seven sisters, Mary Philen, Sophie Matherson, Lillian Philen, Joan Serocki, Rosie Serocki, Alvina Lamers, and Karda Stadtler; and a step grandchild.
