Alyce Schultz, 88, New Effington, SD, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014, at the Northeast Care and Rehabilitation Center in Rosholt, SD.
Funeral services were Friday, October 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington with Rev. Tryphine Olson Schruba officiating. Music was provided by organist Debra Bredvik and vocalists Keith Bostrom and Bob Schultz.
Burial was in the Garden of Rest Cemetery, New Effington. Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Mike Miller, Brad Hilscher, Jerry Born, Liz McDaniel, Chad Dalberg, Todd Dalberg, Tracy Stanz and Davey Ceroll.
Visitation was Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Visitation continued Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alyce Anna Marie was born March 25, 1926, in St. Paul, MN, to Vernon and Anna (Lenz) Smith. She was baptized on May 9, 1926, in St. Paul and confirmed July 28, 1940, at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church. She attended school in Kidder, graduating from Kidder High School on May 25, 1944. Alyce then attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen. After graduating in 1946, she taught rural school for a number of years.
On September 30, 1947, Alyce married Herbert Schultz. They made their home in rural New Effington where they farmed. Alyce later worked in Claire City as a teacher's aide until the school closed. Herb passed away June 30, 1988.
Alyce was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Faith WELCA and church circle. She enjoyed dancing, and having coffee and visiting at Mikey's in New Effington. Getting her hair done was the highlight of every week.
Survivors include three daughters, Darlene (Jim) Miller of New Effington, Paulette (David) Ceroll of New Effington, and Karen (Rick) Foltz of Rosholt; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce (Norm) Arnold of Georgia, June Hane of Longview, TX, and Nancy (Glyn) Hoger of New Salem, ND.
Alyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herb; son, Dale; brother, John Smith; and brother-in-law, Paul Hane.
