Alvina G. Lamers, 80, Browns Valley, MN, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013, at her residence.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Father David Breu officiating. Music was provided by organist Norma Jung and the St. Anthony Choir.
Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Browns Valley. Honorary pallbearers were Bernice Piechowski, Dick and Elnora Stewart, Sylvester and Sally Homan, Joe and Marian Valentine and Joe and Evelyn Schuch. Active pallbearers were Seth Lamers, Dick Serocki, Jerry Kaus, Mike Falkingham, Bob Appel and Bill Appel.
Visitation was Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation continued Saturday one hour prior to the service.
Alvina was born December 14, 1932, in Sisseton, SD, to Mike and Rose (Miotke) Lewandowski. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton and attended St. Peter's Catholic School through the eighth grade. After finishing school, she worked at Landsberger Creamery cleaning and candling eggs and processing poultry.
On October 12, 1953, Alvina married Edward Lamers at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Browns Valley. After their marriage, she began farming and milking cows with Ed in Becker Township, Roberts County, SD.
Alvina was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church, where she was instrumental in starting the prayer line. She also belonged to the Daughters of Isabella, Christian Mothers, the St. Anthony Guild, and American Legion Auxiliary.
Alvina enjoyed chickens, peacocks, flowers, vegetable gardening and making homemade bread. She loved spending time with family and traveling with Ed. Alvina spoke fluent Polish, loved to give hugs, and never lost her sense of humor.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Lamers of Browns Valley; four children, Michele (Greg) Schmidt of Beardsley, MN, Edward (Leanne) Lamers, James (Beverly) Lamers, Sr., and Steven (Shelley) Lamers all of Browns Valley; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosalia (Larry) Serocki, Amanda Sykora and Evelyn Kleindl all of Browns Valley; brother, Mike (Geraldine) Lewandowski of Browns Valley; and sisters-in-law, Beatrice Lewandowski of Fargo, ND, and Joy Lewandowski of Browns Valley.
Alvina was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Julie Lamers; granddaughter, Lisa Schmidt; two brothers; and five sisters.
