Alan E. Moeller, 93, Rosholt, passed away Monday, November 30, 2020, at Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 5, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Lutheran Church, rural Rosholt, with Steven Schiltz officiating. Music will be provided by organist Lana Sand. Vocalists will be Alan's granddaughters and great-granddaughters.
The funeral service will be livestreamed on the Eggers Funeral Home Facebook page.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph Lutheran Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Leo American Legion Post 48 of Rosholt and the Read-Veflin American Legion Post 180 of New Effington. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Mark Moeller, Abel Tejada, Tyler Tobeck, Claudio Tejada, Jacob Moeller, Thor Morrison, Theo Watkin, and Lars Morrison.
Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alan Eugene Moeller was born February 15, 1927, to Horace "Holli" Clement and Alice Lucretia (Jackson) Moeller in Wheaton, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Lutheran Church in rural Rosholt. He attended country school in rural Rosholt and graduated from the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN. On February 13, 1945, Alan enlisted in the US Navy. He was honorably discharged August 6, 1946. He then attended Luther College in Wahoo, NE.
On June 29, 1947, Alan was united in marriage to Cleo Pearl Nigg at St. Joseph Lutheran Church in rural Rosholt. They lived in the Twin Cities area for a year while Alan attended the Lutheran Bible Institute. In the spring of 1948, Alan and Cleo became the third generation of Moellers to live on the family farm, which became a dairy farm. Alan was also an occasional preacher, and he had a lifelong love of artwork that grew into an enjoyable retirement hobby . Alan and Cleo retired in 1992. In 2003, they moved to Piedmont, SD. They returned to the Rosholt area in 2017 spending time at son Jon's house, while Cleo lived at St. Gerard's Care Center, Hankinson, ND. In 2018 he moved to the apartments in Sisseton and made his home in the Tekakwitha Living Center in March 2020.
Alan was a member of the St. Joseph Lutheran Church and the Hills View Evangelical Free Church in Piedmont. He also belonged to the Gideons International and the Stonecroft Bible Studies. Alan enjoyed discussions about family history, dreaming of writing about his parents and lineage. Staying connected to his family was always important to him.
Survivors include his wife, Cleo; children, Layne and Betsy Moeller of Sioux Falls and their daughter Bethany (Chris); Ted and Jan Moeller of Hot Springs, SD, and their daughter, Holli (David); Jon and Chary Moeller of Hankinson, ND, and their children, Maddie (Jake), Abel, Mark (Megan) and Claudio; James and Wendy Moeller of Rosholt, and their children, Tyler, Jacob and Kelly; and Nancy and Dirk Morrison of Piedmont, SD, and their children, Thor, Anika, Liv and Lars; and seven great-grandchildren: Brianna (Bailey), Abigail, Theo, Nathan, Dillan, Cora and Everett.
Alan was preceded in death by his son, Mark Loran in 1955; an infant baby; his parents, Horace and Alice; a brother, Loran; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Moeller.
The family wishes memorial donations be made to the Gideons or Samaritan's Purse.
