Adela E. Gustafson, age 94, Wahpeton, ND, formerly of Oakes, ND, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton.
Visitation will be Friday, February 18, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt officiated by Father Gregg Frankman. Music will be provided by Lana and Paul Sand.
The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed on the Eggers Funeral Home Facebook page.
Adela will be buried at a later date at Oakes View Cemetery in Oakes beside her husband and sons. Pallbearers will be her nephews. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt is in charge of the arrangements.
Adela "Dee" Elizabeth Gustafson was born March 21, 1927, to Joseph and Elnora (Fehringer) Braun in White Rock Township, Roberts County, SD. Adela was the fourth oldest of eleven children. She went to country school in White Rock Township and then graduated from Rosholt High School in 1945. After graduation, she made her home in Oakes.
On October 22, 1946, Adela married Charles Gustafson. In 1947, they purchased a farm in rural Oakes. They farmed until retirement in 1973 then moved into Oakes at that time. Charlie and Adela adopted two little boys, Robert and Thomas. Adela worked at the Coast to Coast store in Oakes for 38 years until retiring in 1994. Charlie died June 26, 1993. They were married for 47 years. Adela continued to live in their home until 2013. After selling her home, she moved back to Rosholt. Adela suffered a stroke in November of 2016. She then moved into St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton, until her death.
Adela was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Oakes. Her hobbies included gardening, bowling, golfing, playing cards, working in her yard, and her most beautiful crocheting. Adela would spend hundreds of hours making doilies, tablecloths, and other crafty items that she would sell at various events around the area.
Adela is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie; both sons, Robert and Thomas; sister, Jeanette; brothers, Ambrose, Vincent, Leander, Mervin, Gerald, and Jerome Braun; brother-in-law, Artie Luick; and sisters-in-law, Rita, Marcella, Betty, Beverly, Bernadine and Ingrid Braun.
She is survived by her sister, Marlene Luick of Fairmount, ND; brothers, Albert (Marceil) Braun of Rosholt, and Raymond (Sharon) Braun of Fergus Falls, MN; sister-in-law, Rose (Braun) Dewey of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
